Holly and Webster bio

Don't read this unless you want spoilers!

Holly Venture and Webster own a detective agency that was started by Holly’s dad (he is essentially the hero of the first Metropolis game from 1987). He went missing on a case a few years ago and since then it's been Holly and her trusty sidekick Webster (a talking dog). The year is 2287, the city is Metropolis and the whiskey is cheap.

Although the world looks like Bladerunner, it’s probably a darker version of 5th Element in terms of it’s humor and social design. To give some context, this future's biggest movie star is a rabbit called Desmond and in some of the news reports thieves dressed as Desmond are robbing grocery stores and police are advising the public to not accept carrots from people in costumes.

Holly is essentially a noir detective, Deckard from Bladerunner. Intelligent, keen eyed, but is working on the side to solve the case of her missing father so always looking to find clues to that case no matter what she is working on and sees conspiracies everywhere. Think of “Dex” from Stumptown or Veronica Mars.

Webster is a talking dog, the trusty sidekick, essentially Watson, pays the bills, but also has the odd dog instinct about him and funny one liners only a dog would say. His character is probably closest to Peter Falk’s Columbo, as a dog he’ll wander the scene, but then have a zinger on the way out that gives the player a vital clue.

This case, the first in the game, is set in and around the apartment of Rock Herring. Every day his apartment is cleaned by a service robot he doesn’t own and somehow that robot gets into his apartment through locked doors and windows and leaves unnoticed. Rock appreciates the clean abode, but really wants to know what’s going on.

Webster has met Rock outside the apartment. They are waiting on Holly, who is about a block away down the road when we join her.
